Safety campaign 2010: 6 Mr.Bricolage stores award prizes to children - 26/07/2010

fmb-securite-enfant-2010-jouet-caisse-outil-bois-superbricoleur

Six children will receive a prize for their participation in the game on superbricoleur.com at a Mr.Bricolage store. This operation was organised in the context of the campaign to promote safety in DIY stores.

50 children were selected by a bailiff from the many children having entered the game on the superbricoleur.com site. 6 of these winners have opted to collect their prize from their Mr.Bricolage store. These lucky winners will shortly receive a wooden tool kit (see photo) in the stores in Cosne sur Loire (58), Gentilly (94), Lillers (62), Montereau (77), Nort sur Erdre (44) and Rochefort (17).

This operation has been organised by the French Federation of DIY and home furnishing stores (FMB) since 2003. The federation has created the superbricoleur.com site for children (games, cartoons, colouring pages, information for parents) for the 3rd year. The safety campaigns organised by DIY stores targeting customers are proving successful. Since 2006, the number of accidents recorded in DIY stores has dropped by 40%.

Mr.Bricolage stores commit to wood - 05/07/2010

campagne-promotion-utilisation-bois-2010130 Mr.Bricolage stores have committed to promoting the wood sector in France. Stores highlight the different uses of wood in homes: construction, renovation, furnishing and decoration.

Wood has many advantages: ecological, sustainable, low-cost, natural, renewable, resistant, convenient and nice to look at. Wood benefits from a positive environmental context. The use of wood globally contributes to reducing greenhouse gases due to its ability to store CO2. This ability is assessed as one ton per cubic metre of wood transformed. Although French forests are the largest in Europe, French wood production is practically the lowest in terms of quantity per inhabitant.

Times are changing. Elected representatives increasingly promote the use of wood produced locally, or in the region. The government has taken several commitments in favour of wood. These commitments aim to increase the use of wood in the different areas of the home. Public authorities particularly wish to multiply the minimum percentage of wood in new constructions by 10. They also commit to the use of certified wood in public constructions.

Wood promotion campaign

This campaign aims to ensure the public are aware of the use of wood in homes. Stores are currently displaying information stands and brochures in this context. Information brochures are adapted depending on the different uses of wood: patios and fences, insulation and renovation of facades, interior design and decorations, woodwork and parquet flooring. This campaign is organised on behalf of France Bois Forêt, via the Comité National pour le Développement du Bois (CNDB – National committee for the development of wood).

Mr.Bricolage group stores bet on safety - 14/06/2010

AFFICHE MAGASIN 2009The 2010 safety campaign has been launched in all Mr.Bricolage group stores. This 8th annual event is organised under the aegis of the rench Federation of DIY and home furnishing stores (FMB). This event is organised in partnership with the Consumer Safety Commission (CSC) and the European Federation of Emergency Services for the Hands (FESUM). Ensuring awareness of risks in stores The idea is for all group stores to ensure that parents and children are aware of how to act and the precautions to take in DIY stores. The campaign is advertised with in-store posters with a simple slogan “This store is not a playground, keep your eyes open”. Stores will distribute a specially designed happy families game, and a “Your hands, your most precious tool” flyer. The web site of the FMB, www.superbricoleur.com will host a competition until 30 June. Children can win their own wooden toolboxes. Accident figures falling slowly but steadily Accident statistics in stores reflect a regular decrease each year. In 2009, only 546 accidents were recorded, as compared with 682 the previous year. This figure must be compared with the 172 million visits recorded to stores over the year. This observation confirms the benefit of regular awareness campaigns in this field.

Mr.Bricolage opens an eco-design store in Barcelonnette - 10/06/2010

mr-bricolage-04-barcelonnette-2010 The Mr.Bricolage store in Barcelonnette was officially opened in the presence of Jean-François Boucher, Chairman of the Mr.Bricolage group. An atypical store for many reasons, primarily the enchanting environment of the surrounding valley and secondly the eco-design of the building.

The town of Barcelonnette is located at an altitude of 1,135 metres in the valley of Ubaye. This town, near to Italy, can boast 7000 inhabitants. The Mr.Bricolage store, present in the town for many years, took advantage of an opportunity to transfer and expand. The new store covers 1,000 square metres of sales surface area and recently set up shop in a building with a mountain-type architecture and urban rules. The franchisee owning the building has committed to a voluntary approach to the protection of the environment. He took advantage of the presence of a ground water layer and installed a geothermic heating/air conditioning system. The particularly sunny environment of the area encouraged the installation of solar panels on the roof, producing 90% of the electricity consumed by the sales outlet.

mr-bricolage-04-barcelonnette-jean-francois-boucher-france-3-2010Jean-François Boucher, Chairman of the Mr.Bricolage group, praised the eco-design of this store to the cameras of the France 3 PACA TV channel, while specifying that the store was a trial project. Not all of the solutions applied in this case can be generalised to all new sites. He added that all environmentally-friendly construction options were considered for each new project.

  table-ronde-bricomag-30-ans-anniversaire-mr-bricolage

A round table organised by the magazine Bricomag allowed the Bricolage group to maintain dialogue with its suppliers. This round table will be described in a special edition of the magazine, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Mr.Bricolage store. The magazine will be published at the end of the first half of 2010.

Around twenty suppliers were able to discuss matters with Mr.Bricolage group management. The table was completed by Gilles Caille, Chairman of Unibal (body representing DIY suppliers), Philippe Baron representing Eco-Systèmes and Jean-Christophe Copsidis (Catena franchisee and Mr.Bricolage partner) representing group stores. Jean-François Boucher was present as both CEO of Mr.Bricolage SA and owner of five Mr.Bricolage stores.

The following are just some of the topics discussed at the round table: commercial negotiations, the law on economic modernisation (LME) and its consequences, distribution brand products, the influence of sustainable development on product ranges, recovering products at end-of-life, franchisee expectations of suppliers in view of rapidly changing consumer habits, the role of innovation on the market, the creation of partnerships between suppliers and distributors to the benefit of stores and therefore customers.

This event provided the opportunity for open and honest debating between the different partners. Potential future action was discussed to continue creating value to the benefit of all.

Mr Bricolage recycles your used bulbs - 18/01/2010

recylum-ampoule-electricite-recyclage-environnement

2009 recently came to an end and Recylum, the recycling body for used bulbs, has already collected 10 000 tons in just 3 years.

Energy saving bulbs consume 5 times less than ordinary bulbs. They do however contain several components which must be recycled at end-of-life to protect the environment. Many stores, including Mr.Bricolage, have acquired collectors for for energy saving bulbs. These collectors are generally installed at store entrances.

Remembering to recycle old bulbs must be automatic when customers come to the store to replace a defective bulb.

Recylum aims to organise the collection and recycling of used bulbs by individuals and professionals in France (including overseas departments) ; all sources of light are involved, with the exception of filament bulbs and incandescent bulbs. (More info. on www.mr-Bricolage.com : Withdrawing incandescent bulbs).

The Mr.Bricolage group has launched a voluntary process to reduce volumes of packaging. This represents an additional group commitment to the protection of our environment.

In 2009, David Devun, who is in charge of distribution brand products for Mr.Bricolage, revised several store brand product ranges. He also reconsidered the packaging of all products sold under the Mr.Bricolage brand in parallel, aiming to reduce the volume of packaging substantially..

The LSA magazine recently brought together three representatives of distributors, including David Devun, to explain their approach to reducing packaging  “precise specifications on the reduction of packaging are included in all our requests for tenders for store brands”. He added: “The results of our initiatives are starting to appear on our shelves”.

Check out his explanations in the LSA magazine published on Thursday 5 November with a dossier dedicated to “Own brand packaging”.
