Mr Bricolage doubling its presence in Morocco - 20/12/2010

In Morocco, the Mr Bricolage group will double the size of its network by opening two stores in 2011. Other projects will be completed in the coming years.

At Tangier, a new Mr Bricolage store will open its doors during the first quarter of 2011. During the following summer, the 4th Moroccan sales outlet will open in Agadir. In both cases, the sales outlets will open right next to a Marjane store, the leading food supermarket in Morocco.

Mr Bricolage is already present in Morocco, at Casablanca and Marrakech. The Casablanca store was opened in 2005. This is the largest DIY store in the country with a surface area of 4,000 m². The store offers a wide range of gardening products, particularly for outdoor gardening. At Marrakech, the store has a surface area of 2,000 m² and opened in 2008. This store is located in a trading estate with around thirty other stores, including one Marjane supermarket

In Morocco, Mr Bricolage stores import 50% of the 35,000 products on sale. These imported products are very popular with Moroccan customers, particularly at Marrakech. Store product ranges are similar to those of French stores. Sales plans were adapted to Moroccan customers. The gardening market in Moroccan includes products for outdoor use all year long.

Publicis created the Mr. Bricolage logo in 1980 - 08/10/2010

Mr. Bricolage celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. Let us take a look back at the history behind the store name and the logo created by Publicis in 1980. In 1979, a grouping of independent stores came together as a cooperative under the name Anpf (Association Nationale des Promoteurs du Faites-le vous-même – National Association of DIY promoters). The name was based on a translation of the famous US Do-it-Yourself (DIY). At that time, each store had its own name. The surname of the store director was often used as the store name. Anpf continued its activities for 15 years. ANPF franchisees then started searching for a means of strengthening their network and presence on the DIY market. They decided to opt for a common store name. A very long list of possible names was drafted, and the idea of combining “Monsieur” with “Bricolage” (DIY) slowly gained ground. This store name had the advantage of clearly indicating the items sold. The general meeting of franchisees approved the store name. The grouping mandated the Publicis agency to produce a logo for the store name. Maurice Lévy, current Publicis CEO, was very interested in the project and handled it directly. After leaving a working meeting with the directors of the Anpf, they met up with Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet (director and founder of Publicis in 1926). They explained their difficulty with “Monsieur Bricolage“: this name was unanimously approved, but was too long. General practice deemed that store names could not include more than three syllables. Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet suggested shortening the name to “Mr.Bricolage“. This name was tested with consumers and testing was conclusive with 96% positive feedback. The Mr.Bricolage store name saw the light! As luck would have it, 30 years later, Publicis designed the new trademark for the Mr.Bricolage group.

Six children will receive a prize for their participation in the game on superbricoleur.com at a Mr.Bricolage store. This operation was organised in the context of the campaign to promote safety in DIY stores.

50 children were selected by a bailiff from the many children having entered the game on the superbricoleur.com site. 6 of these winners have opted to collect their prize from their Mr.Bricolage store. These lucky winners will shortly receive a wooden tool kit (see photo) in the stores in Cosne sur Loire (58), Gentilly (94), Lillers (62), Montereau (77), Nort sur Erdre (44) and Rochefort (17).

This operation has been organised by the French Federation of DIY and home furnishing stores (FMB) since 2003. The federation has created the superbricoleur.com site for children (games, cartoons, colouring pages, information for parents) for the 3rd year. The safety campaigns organised by DIY stores targeting customers are proving successful. Since 2006, the number of accidents recorded in DIY stores has dropped by 40%.
