Mr Bricolage elected employer of the year by the Rebondir magazine - 29/04/2011

The Mr Bricolage group was elected employer of the year 2011 by the readers of the Rebondir magazine.

This award was issued subsequent to the publication of an article on Mr Bricolage in the Rebondir magazine of November (see cover below). Each year, the magazine asks its readers to elect the employer with the most convincing HR policy in terms of employment, training and career prospects, in their opinion. The readers select the company most in the headlines and recruiting, from the 9 companies presented during the year.

Jean-François Boucher, Chief Executive Officer of the Mr Bricolage group, participated in an interview broadcast on Rebondir-TV to collect the award. During this TV interview, Jean-François Boucher listed the HR policy initiatives deployed by himself since his arrival in 2007. He explained that the Mr Bricolage group recruits, trains and supports its personnel from shop-level positions to management positions, and can even assist employees to manage their own company within the Group.

Finally, Jean-François Boucher reiterated his intention to make Mr Bricolage the number one group, thanks to local stores and satisfied personnel, to develop the capital of its franchisees and to increase the value of the homes of its customers.

Try my handicap! - 03/12/2010

Céline, an employee at the Mr Bricolage head office

Mr Bricolage participated in the “Try my handicap” operation organised by the “Club Emploi et Handicap” (Employment and disability club). This event was organised from 16 to 22 November 2010 in the context of the national week for the promotion of the disabled.

Personnel from companies, members of the Club, visited the ESAT (Employment-based Assistance Service and Site) in the Couronnerie at Saint-Pryvé-Saint-Mesmin (southern suburb of Orléans). This operation allowed personnel to find out how the ESAT works. The site visit mainly allowed Mr Bricolage personnel to meet with ESAT site personnel. Disabled workers explained their jobs. Each visitor was able to put themselves in the position of a disabled person and execute their tasks. Beyond life at work, other types of role play were used to try day-to-day acts such as cooking from a wheel chair, or changing a baby’s nappy with a visual handicap.

Sabrina was among the Mr Bricolage employees present and found the visit worthwhile. “Site employees were delighted to show us what they could do and explain their jobs”. She added that the “try my handicap” experience in a wheel chair or with black glasses to simulate blindness, made her realise the daily difficulties faced by the disabled.

The Mr.Bricolage book: a human tale - 20/07/2010

livre-entreprise-mr-bricolage-2010-communication-institutionnelle-couverture Mr.Bricolage has recently published a corporate book to celebrate its 30th anniversary. The group tells the tale of the first grouping of independent DIY stores in France. A human tale.

It all started with a hardware merchant coming from Orléans, Bernard Ivernel, in the mid-1950s. He heard tell of a new form of distribution gaining ground in the United States, known as, “Do it yourself”. He received increasingly urgent demands from his customers looking to find articles to fit out, maintain and decorate their homes, all under the same roof. Bernard Ivernel decided to use the American approach in France. Assuming others would have the same idea; he sought out and met up with other traders applying the same policy. Bernard Ivernel was a visionary and a leader and brought together the 12 pioneers within a club for sharing and discussion. L’Association Nationale pour la Promotion du Faites le vous-même (ANPF – The National association of DIY promoters) was officially founded in 1965. The association rapidly integrated many independent traders. A few years later, they decided to take things a step further and created the Mr.Bricolage store name.

The Mr.Bricolage investment fund finances its first project - 10/02/2010

Info-FIPA.cdrThe Mr.Bricolage Franchisee Partnership and Investment fund (FIPA) has recently signed its first financing contract.

The project involves supporting Jean Dujardin, franchisee of the Mr.Bricolage store in Masny (59). The aim was to finance the partial acquisition of the shares of a partner wishing to sell his company shares. The FIPA therefore replaced this partner and acquired the shares for a period of 5 years. After this period, Jean Dujardin will acquire all of the shares purchased by the FIPA.

he FIPA is the new financing body for Mr Bricolage group stores. The body is funded by the voluntary contributions of franchisees or former franchisees wishing to invest their capital and maintain relations with the Group. The FIPA operates independently to the Mr.Bricolage group and is managed by its own structure. The body exclusively finances projects to create, expand or take over a store.

Ifogeco, the Mr.Bricolage group training institute, has issued diplomas to its future store directors. This first set of graduates was baptised the “Bernard Ivernel” class, which is the name of main founder of the grouping of independent stores.

The ceremony was organised in the presence of Jean-François Boucher, Chief Executive Officer of the Mr.Bricolage group, Jean-Mary Marie, Human Resources director, Philippe Colomby, Director of Integrated Stores, Jianny Gigan, Director of Ifogeco, and the team of monitors.

This sandwich course training is organised over one year, with one week per month. Eight new directors were rewarded for their participation and the quality of their final presentation. Next year, the Management school will be completed to train the sons and daughters of current franchise managers, destined to take over the family business one day. This Mr.Bricolage group internal training program is highly successful, with fifteen participants registered for the next course.

Jean-François Boucher reiterated the importance accorded by the Group to the men and women working within the grouping. Every effort is made to ensure personnel progress, and the Group even provides support for personnel wishing to take over or create their own company thanks to the Passport for entrepreneurs.  This program was launched in 2008, and two former Group employees received support in 2009.

The FIPA, Franchisee partnership and investment fund - 05/06/2009

mr-bricolage-fipa-creation-magasinAn investment fund was created by former franchisees, driven by the enthusiasm of founding pioneers.

The success of the creation or acquisition of our stores currently requires far more capital than was once the case. Many of the candidates aiming to set up their own store do not hold the necessary funds.

Experienced entrepreneurs can provide capital, and much more: support, expertise and credibility with regard third parties (bank managers, suppliers, etc.).

The investment fund is chaired by André Niort, and is managed entirely independently to Mr.Bricolage. The fund makes its own decisions via an Investment committee exclusively consisting of subscribers.
